Motherhood is a vocation of love

While horrific courtroom news dominates headlines and disturbing takes flood social media, the core truth remains: motherhood is a sacred vocation of love. Through your love for your spouse and in cooperation with the Creator, you have brought a unique, eternal soul into existence. The way you love and nurture your child actively wires their mind and body for love and connection for life.
Motherhood is profoundly beautiful, but it is also a difficult path—one often wrought with real suffering, hardship, and turmoil. Mental health struggles are a heavy cross that many mothers carry. You would be hard-pressed to find a mother who hasn't walked down dark roads or wrestled with her emotional well-being. Our Blessed Mother standing at the foot of the cross gives us the ultimate example of perfect, enduring love in the midst of untold anguish.
Two things can be true at once: we can extend deep empathy for the mental and emotional suffering so many endure, while still upholding justice for evil actions. As mothers, we can grieve, struggle, and carry heavy loads while still choosing to love our children to the best of our ability.

If you are struggling today:
Turn to Our Blessed Mother: Ask the perfection of motherhood for her intercession. She is already beside you, loving you, and desiring to walk with you.
Seek practical, healthy support: Reach out to the right people—your spouse, trusted friends, family, your doctor, or your FertilityCare Practitioner.
Beware the trap of avoiding all pain: Striving for a life entirely free of suffering leads to desperation and burnout. Jesus was direct about the realities of this world: "In the world you have tribulation; but take courage, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
Instead of chasing a life without problems, search for peace amidst the suffering. That peace is found in Jesus, who teaches us how to love well even in our hardest seasons.
