Groesbeck FertilityCare Center is so excited to share that Dr. Kathleen Stenlund of Bloom and Balance Clinic in East Lansing is able to support women who are using the Creighton Model with her expertise as a NaPro Medical Consultant, offering in-person NaPro Care! GFCC was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Stenlund at our annual retreat day in November where she shared wonderful information detailing her approach to woman's health. In an effort to help spread the news of in-person NaPro care, Dr. Stenlund graciously agreed to answer some questions for today's blog to give our clients a better idea of her approach to woman's health.

1. Are all NaPro Medical Consultants OB/GYNs? What is the advantage for seeing a NaPro MC in addition to your regular OB/GYN?

For starters, not all NaPro Medical Consultants are OB/GYNs, so there is a big difference right there. Some are, but not all. My own medical training is in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, not Obstetrics or Gynecology. NaPro MCs utilize a heavily researched and cohesive set of diagnostic and therapeutic protocols put together by the people at the Saint Paul VI Institute that are completely in line with Catholic moral teachings. It’s an entirely different way of approaching issues like infertility, miscarriage, and hormonal imbalance. Any regular medical doctor or OB/GYN didn’t learn any of those things—it’s simply not part of standard training or testing in our medical system.

2. Is charting with CrMS necessary to receive NaPro care?

Essentially, yes, you need to chart using the Creighton model if you want to receive any NaPro care. NaPro was developed based on research with the CrMS and assumes that anyone using it has been charting properly. All the protocols except a few, like postpartum depression, rely on the Creighton chart.

3. Should you see a NaPro MC even if you don't have any obvious concerns with your health or chart?

I don’t think that’s necessary. If you are healthy and your chart is uncomplicated, be grateful! If you are having problems, then it’s time to seek help.

4. What do you enjoy best about being a NaPro MC?

I love being able to help women through difficult times and offer solutions way beyond standard medical care. NaPro doesn’t rely on hormonal birth control like mainstream medicine to “fix” a variety of health issues. So much of our modern medicine works against women’s bodies and doesn’t help them towards health or real solutions for their problems. I love being able to offer something better.

5. What other services do you offer besides NaPro care?

I’m a physician trained in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, so I primarily offer Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, especially for peripartum women and babies. I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, helping women and their babies establish and maintain a healthy breastfeeding relationship.

6. Where are you located and how can clients get in touch to schedule a new client appointment with you?

My clinic is located at 330 W Lake Lansing Rd in East Lansing, inside Rooted Counseling. To schedule a new client appointment, clients should go to my website, www.bloomandbalanceclinic.com, and click the “schedule an appointment” button. I’d be happy to help them!
