Mini Goal Motivation

I heard about the concept of setting a monthly mini goal during a follow-up with a client recently. While her and her husband’s ultimate goal as they work through infertility is to conceive a baby, she brought up that setting a monthly mini goal that is in alignment with her big picture helps keep her focused and motivated when the going gets tough, a feeling that can occur no matter a woman’s reason for charting. As we move through the final hot (and unfortunately smokey) days of July, I am personally feeling like setting a mini goal or two would help remotivate me in areas where I have been slightly slacking while enjoying the lazier days of summer. The following is a list of ideas that just might give you the mini goal motivation to move you closer to achieve your big picture goal.
-Drink more water: This one seems to always be on everyone’s list, but water is so very helpful for your body, especially during the hot summer months. Increasing water intake
could possibly increase cervical mucus as well depending on how dehydrated you normally are. In order to make this a SMART goal, you could even set a alarm on your phone as a reminder to drink another glass of water in order to hit the daily recommended amount.
-Move more, stress less: I am all in favor of spending time floating on a big float in the middle of the pool sipping on a refreshing mojito, but I know that is not the best way to ultimately reduce my stress. For me, I have to get my body moving through running or weight lifting consistently in order to handle stress better. Have I been doing that this summer? Nope. Have I been feeling the effects and even seen it impact my charting. O yes. Instead of beating myself up about it continuously, I have decided to embrace the next concept…
-Be gentle, be graceful: Maybe you are in a busy season of homelife, work, or otherwise, and the best mini goal you could set for the month would be to take one thing off of your plate that is no longer serving you so you can be your best. I struggle a lot with this concept (thanks stupid pride) but it really feels like I am failing when I am not completing all the things I set out to do for the day, week, month, etc. when the simple truth is that I have unrealistically overextended and overcommitted. A little pruning of your monthly to-do list might actually bring the peace, clarity, and space you need to reestablish yourself with a mini goal to get back on track to the big picture.
In the middle of a season- whether meteorologically or metaphorically- can be a great time to refocus on your big picture goal with the help of a monthly mini goal motivation.
