When learning the Creighton Model FertilityCare System, one of the most important skills is making daily observations. These small but meaningful acts are the foundation of consistent observations and accurate charting. But like any new habit, consistency takes practice.

There are many authors who write about the science of habit-building, but one that I’ve found especially helpful is James Clear in his book Atomic Habits. Clear explains that the best way to begin a new habit is by attaching it to one you already do. He even suggests writing down your daily routine from the moment you wake up: wake up, put on slippers, use the bathroom, brush teeth, start the coffee maker. Once you see your natural chain of habits, you can “stack” new habits into that rhythm. As he puts it, “The quickest way to build a new habit into your life is to stack it on top of a current habit.”

I used this approach myself when I wanted to start flossing daily. I already brushed my teeth every morning and night without fail, so I decided: before I brush my teeth, I will floss my teeth. Over time, flossing became so tied to brushing that I hardly think about it anymore—it just happens.

Creighton observations can be built the same way. Instead of depending on willpower or memory, link your observation routine to something you already do each day. For example: before I sit down to use the restroom, I will fold the toilet paper into flat sheets and make my Creighton observation. Or, before I lay down to go to bed, I will record the most fertile observation of the day on my CrMS chart. By anchoring your Creighton practice to habits that are already automatic, you make consistency much easier to achieve.

At first, daily observation may feel like just one more thing to remember. But when you integrate it into your natural routine, it becomes second nature. Each small observation builds your confidence in using the Creighton Model and strengthens your trust in the method. Habits are like compound interest—the benefits multiply over time. Those little decisions to fold the toilet paper before sitting or to write down your observation before bed may seem small, but together they create a clear, accurate chart that serves you and your health. This is just one simple way to make your fertility health a priority.

If you’re just getting started, try making your own list of daily habits this week. Then, decide where your Creighton practices can fit most naturally. Once those connections are made, you’ll find that observation becomes an easy, life-giving habit. At Groesbeck FertilityCare Center, we’re here to support you as you build habits that not only last but truly serve your well-being and your family’s future. Contact a practitioner today!
