Season of Waiting
Season of Waiting

With Christmas two days away, I find myself reflecting on Seasons of Waiting we experience in life. For the longest time, waiting has always sounded like such a passive thing, like you're just sitting around and waiting for something to happen when the reality is seasons of waiting are some of the most active times of life! Look at Mary: as soon as she finds out she is expecting Jesus, Mary sets out "in haste" to go visit her cousin Elizabeth to help her with her pregnancy and the birth of John. And in her preparing to discuss the nature of her pregnancy with Joseph, I am sure she was doing much pondering in her heart. And let's not forgot Mary traveling to Bethlehem for the census while heavily pregnant with Jesus. Mary's time of waiting for Jesus was anything but passive: she was traveling "in haste", pondering in her heart, and then traveling some more to give birth to the Messiah. And while we may not be called to the same activities during our times of waiting, seasons of waiting can be active as well, especially when it comes to charting.

One of the most obvious times of waiting when it comes to charting is for those waiting to become pregnant. With all of the various factors that can contribute to infertility, this can be a very active season of waiting: learning how to chart and interpreting your chart with your CFCP; watching your body adjust to various supplements; waiting for surgery and then waiting for healing postoperatively; and of course waiting for conception! One of the things that can make this season of waiting so overwhelming is the unknown of when a couple will be blessed with a pregnancy. And while that feeling can be draining, having things to do to achieve your goal of pregnancy can make that season of waiting easier, like keeping consistent with your follow-ups and appointments with your NaPro physician, continuing with your supplements and dietary changes as recommended and taking care of your mental health and marriage. And like any season in life, it doesn't last forever.

May this last few days of the Advent season help you reflect on areas of your life where you have been waiting and how you might be called to be more active in the waiting. Reach out to one of our Creighton Practitioner's in the new year to help you through your season of waiting. Merry Christmas!
