There's an app for that! ... Or is there??

As much as part of me would like to chuck my iPhone out the window, go off the grid and never look back, it seems like more and more tasks of modern day life "require" or are at least made exponentially easier by the use of an app on this handy little hunk of metal and plastic. In just the last few hours of my day yesterday I used it to pick up a curbside grocery order (probably my favorite modern invention of ALL TIME as a mom), navigate via GPS to a friend's house, RSVP to an invitation, schedule an appointment, answer a couple phone calls, snap a picture, check the weather for tomorrow and listen to a podcast. Is there anything these darn things can't do? Well, I have to admit, the last thing I did before bed was pull out my good old fashion Creighton Model paper chart and chart the most fertile thing I'd seen all day and the little stamp (sticker) that goes along with that observation. Call me old fashioned but there is just something about that physical chart I really like to have. At last count, I think I had 14 old charts in my bedside drawer. There is something cool about having physical copy of a unique and unrepeatable medical record. But wow, I really love to click a button on my phone and have my groceries come right out to my car! So if you're looking for a high(er) tech solution to charting your fertility - here is some more information.

The Saint Paul IV Institute did create a web-based application for charting with Creighton Model. It's been available now for a couple of years and is available to use for any Creighton model client actively working with a Practitioner that has had at least 5 follow up sessions. To gain access to the application, you need to go through your Practitioner, so contact her for more information on how to get started with that!

If there's an app, why I can't I just download from my app store and chart my fertility that way instead of working with a practitioner?

A valid question considering the fact that there are hundreds of apps available for charting your fertility. What makes Creighton Model different from those 400+ fertility apps? The web based charting available for Creighton Model is simply a way of getting the biomarker charting that you are already doing under the guidance of your FertilityCare Practitioner into a web-based format instead of the paper chart. Some women may find this especially useful if they are doing follow ups virtually. It's not a standalone app that has algorithms at work predicting your fertile windows and feeding you information about your reproductive health based on those algorithms. Creighton Model understands that, especially when it comes to women dealing with complex medical, physical or psychosocial issues surrounding their fertility and family planning, that an algorithm inside an app is always going to fall short of giving you all the help and information that you need. Furthermore, algorithms use past data about your cycles to fine tune their predications. This is not always accurate or helpful and leads to an inaccurate representation of what's truly going on with your fertility. When you use Creighton Model web-based charting, you will still have all of your instructions inputted by your FertilityCare Practitioner (just as you do when you use a paper chart). You'll still go over that charting at follow ups with your Practitioner and receive feedback and corrections from her. And you'll still be gleaning your own understanding of your unique reproductive health and windows of fertility based on the information from your body and not what's fed to you through an algorithm.
